This parameter stores the data read retries rate of hardware read errors that occurred when reading data from a disk surface. Different vendors will have a different raw value structure which is often not meaningful as a decimal number. A lower value signifies that there is a problem with either disk surface or read/write heads.
This parameter displays a hard drive’s overall (general) throughput performance.
This parameter displays the average time to spin up the drive spindle (from zero RPM to fully operational [milliseconds]).
This parameter displays a count of hard disk spindle start/stop cycles. The spindle turns on, and hence the count is increased, both when the hard disk is turned on after having before been turned entirely off (disconnected from power source) and when the hard disk returns from having previously been put to sleep mode.
This parameter displays the exact count of bad sectors that have been found and remapped (reallocated). If the sector became bad due to a read/write/verification error then, the drive replaces it with a spare sector from a special spare area. The higher the parameter value, the more sectors the drive had to allocate.
This parameter specifies the margin of a channel while reading data.
This parameter specifies the rate of seek errors of the magnetic heads. Seek errors arise when there is a partial failure in the mechanical positioning system. Such a failure may be due to numerous factors, such as damage to a servo, or thermal widening of the hard disk.
This parameter specifies an average performance of seek operations of the magnetic heads.
This parameter shows the total count of hours of a computer in power-on state. Depending on the manufacturer this parameter might show total count of minutes, or seconds in power-on state.
This parameter shows the total count of retry of spin start attempts to reach the fully operational speed (under the condition that the first attempt was unsuccessful).
This parameter shows the number of attempts to recalibrate the hard drive after the first unsuccessful attempt.
This parameter specifies the total count of full hard disk power on/off cycles.
This parameter value indicates uncorrected read errors reported to the operating system.
This parameter is only available in Western Digital and Samsung devices.
This parameter is a part of HP’s SMART IV technology. The parameter value indicates that after transferring through the cache RAM data buffer the parity data between the host and the hard drive did not match.
This parameter is only available in Western Digital devices.
This parameter is only available in Western Digital devices.
This parameter displays the total count of errors that could not be recovered using hardware ECC. Relates to S.M.A.R.T attribute 195.
This parameter displays the total count of aborted operations due to HDD timeout. This value should be equal to zero. If the value is too high, then most likely there will be some serious problems with power supply or an oxidized data cable.
This parameter displays a total count of high fly write errors over the lifetime of the drive. Additional protections for write operations are provided by HDD producers by implementing a Fly Height Monitor which detects when a recording head is flying outside its normal operating range. In the process of detecting an unsafe fly height condition, the write process is stopped, and the information is rewritten or reallocated to a safe region of the hard drive. The errors detected over the lifetime of a drive are then counted and displayed in this parameter.
Value is equal to (100−temp. °C), allowing the manufacturer to set a minimum threshold which corresponds to a maximum temperature.
This parameter displays the rate of errors as a result of externally-induced shock & vibration.
This parameter displays the total count of number of power-off cycles. Heads can be unloaded without actually powering off.
This parameter displays a total count of load/unload cycles into head landing zone position.
This parameter displays the current internal temperature.
This parameter displays the time between ECC-corrected errors.
This parameter displays a count of remap operations i.e., the total count of attempts to transfer data from reallocated sectors to a spare area. Both successful & unsuccessful attempts are counted.
This parameter displays a total count of \"unstable\" sectors (waiting to be remapped, because of read errors). This value goes down and the sector is not remapped if an unstable sector is subsequently written or read successfully. Read errors on a sector will not remap the sector (since it might be readable later); instead, the drive firmware remembers that the sector needs to be remapped, and remaps it the next time it's written.
This parameter displays the total count of uncorrectable errors when reading/writing a sector. An increase in the value of this parameter indicates defects of the disk surface and/or problems in the mechanical subsystem.
This parameter displays the total count of errors in data transfer via the interface cable as determined by ICRC (Interface Cyclic Redundancy Check).
This parameter displays a total count of errors found when writing a sector. The higher the value, the worse the disk's mechanical condition is.
This parameter displays the number of uncorrectable software read errors.
This parameter displays the total number of incorrect or invalid address marks.
This parameter specifies that an invalid error correction checksum was found during error correction.
This parameter specifies the number of errors corrected by the internal error correction mechanism.
This parameter displays the total count of errors due to high temperature.
This parameter displays the height of heads above the disk surface. Too low flying height increases the chances of a head crash while a too high flying height increases the chances of a read/write error.
This shows the amount of surge current needed to spin up the drive.
This parameter shows the number of retries during spin up of the drive because of low current.
This parameter shows the seek performance of the hard drive during internal self-tests.
This parameter shows the amount of vibration encountered during write operations.
This parameter shows the amount of shock encountered during write operations.
This parameter specifies the distance the disk has shifted relative to the spindle, which could be caused by a mechanical shock or high temperature. Unit of measure is unknown.
This parameter displays the count of errors due to externally-induced shock & vibration.
This parameter displays the number of hours the drive is powered on. The value should increase once per hour.
This parameter displays the number of times drive head enters/leaves the data zone.
This parameter shows the rate of friction between mechanical parts of the hard disk while operating. Only the time when heads were in the operating position is counted. When the value increases, it indicates that there is a problem with the mechanical subsystem of the drive.
This parameter shows the total number of load cycles into Landing Zone position.
This parameter displays the total time taken in loading the magnetic heads actuator (time not spent in parking area).
This parameter shows the total count of attempts to compensate for platter speed variations.
This parameter shows the total count of times the magnetic head was retracted because of power loss.
This parameter specifies a count of head moving distances between operations.
This parameter displays the drive temperature.
This parameter shows the total time spent while the drive head is positioning.
This parameter displays the total number of LBAs written.
This parameter displays the total number of LBAs read.
This parameter displays total count of errors found during reading a sector from disk surface.
This parameter displays the total count of \"Free Fall Events\" detected by the accelerometer sensor.
